Greetings from the other half of the dynamic duo :)

Today was the first day of classes. Murphy's Law is alive and well in Croatia also; still no laptops. We expect them in tomorrow (tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...) We're making notes for the next group of captionists who will be lucky enough to come out here next year; use FedEx, do not use DHL! For classes today, we borrowed a school laptop and just straight typed in Word, blew up the font so Jackie could see, and typed our fingers to the bone. Never let it be said we don't appreciate C-Print.

Jackie's two classes are Social Change and Environment of the Adriatic; both interesting professors and topics. The Environment class will be taking field trips; the first one is to a national park... and one to a winery. Yes, I know, feel sorry for us. We also captioned a one hour culture class led by one of the ACMT students; so much to do and see and learn here, for everyone.

Last night we got a full flavor of Croatian life: soccer. Croatia was playing Austria. We were in the apartment, minding our own business, relaxing, when a huge cheer/chant came from Old Town. Old Town is about twenty minutes away, on foot. Croatia scored the first goal! So, of course, Cathy and I became immediate soccer fans and we would have watched the entire game had the reception on the TV decided not to go on holiday. As it was, we knew Croatia won because of all the noise and cheers and fireworks coming from Old Town. Horns blaring on cars, the sounds of jubilant soccer fans celebrating. It was hard not to get caught up in the excitement.

Our sweetheart of a landlord also brought us slices of cake for dessert last night. Add this to the rose he cut for us Saturday... Kristo likes his Mrs. Annette and especially his Mrs. Cathy.

Well, our work day is winding down as yours may be starting up, but we will think of you while we walk through Old Town in search of a cafe for dinner... or as we relax on the balcony this evening.

See you again soon!
